Dried Flowers, Foliage and Winter Berries

How full of light and colour are their last days."   - John Burroughs We like to think our wreaths might serve as a gentle reminder of nature's bounty.  Made from leaves, berries and flowers we've either grown or gathered during the year, we carefully craft them by weaving strips of willow or bunches of moss into naturalistic and wild creations. Our principle is to be guided by the materials, so some might be simple, using only the barest of branches and a few dried seed heads, whereas others may be more layered and more complex, on a base of green moss harvested from under the oak tree.Hang one on your door to honour the seaonal...

Just arrived - our new cosy throws

We're blessed with a perfect September day today... the sun is out and it's golden, the sky is blue and streaked with soft cloud but it feels fresher, like a signal to what's in store for us weather wise. With perfect timing, our new throws have arrived. These are wonderfully light, with a texture just like sheepskin, and have all the warmth of a much thicker blanket. Autumnal Wreaths

As the season turns so we turn to a new palette of colour and texture. The harvest we made in the summer, seemingly only a few weeks ago, of herbs and flowers, picked and stored carefully in our barn now feels ready for it's next display. Oregano, left to do it's own thing on a corner in our garden becomes a wild and naturalistic base and is the perfect foil to plum berries taken from a rambling rose. Julia has been busy again gathering armfuls of these seasonal delights, the studio once again a creative tangle and artistic mess of foliage, thorns and berries. I absolutely revel in this new phase and eagerly anticipate the results of whatever she's working...
